ARTIST LISTING

Byron Mejía

Byron Mejía is a young artist emerging on the Central American art scene who gained greater exposure when he represented Honduras in the 2001 Central American Biennial. This work belongs to a series of paintings focused on depicting the tragic side of humanity, and in this case, greed for material wealth and power as being more important than the well-being of others. Painted in an expressionistic style, the work has an oppressive and anguished atmosphere filled with various emaciated or skeletal-like figures that symbolize greed and lack.
