ARTIST LISTING

Carlos Colombino

Paraguayan artist, Carlos Colombino, made his dramatic entrance on the art scene in the 1950s with his participation in the New Art Group. His most important works offer social and political criticism about his native country. Colombino’s technical experimentation is created with the technique of xilo-painting, or lino-cut painting, made from cedarwood, carved and arranged in various layers and tinted with oil. His creations are like molds for engravings that, instead of being used for printing, become the work of art itself. The evocative organic forms produced by the natural form of the wood create dreamlike atmospheres.
------
