Walter Goldfarb
This work is related to the work of Brazilian artist, Walter Goldfarb, who created the Lysergic series beginning in 2006 to explore themes related to power, social values and gender roles. Based on the psychedelic art of the sixties the colors reflect the altered state of mind that comes from using LSD (lysergic acid diethylam), in an attempt to transmit a hallucinogenic sensation to the observer. The colors mutate with the movement of the viewer along with the change of light. Among the series’ images, the paintings with tattoos of tigers, flowers and tribal forms especially stand out. The artist conducted a survey in Rio de Janeiro to find out which tattoos were the most popular amongst men and women; the tiger is the most common among men and appears as a symbol of virility in Goldfarb’s artwork, while the flower was the most popular tattoo for women. In this work, the tattoos serve as symbolic metaphors to represent the struggle between the masculine and feminine energies.

Esta obra pertenece a la serie lisérgica realizada a partir del 2006 y en donde Walter Goldfarb explora temáticas relacionadas con el poder, los valores y los roles sociales. La serie lisérgica tiene su base en las obras psicodélicas de los años sesenta y refleja los estados alterados por la droga LSD (Dietilamida de Acido Lisérgico). Las obras lisérgicas tratan de transmitir un sentido alucinógeno al observador, sus colores mutan en función del movimiento del espectador y con los cambios de luz. Entre las imágenes de la serie lisérgica destacan aquellas relacionadas con tatuajes como los tigres, las flores y las formas tribales. El artista realizó un estudio sobre los tatuajes más usados entre hombres y mujeres en Río de Janeiro. El tigre, era la imagen más usada por los hombres y aparece como símbolo de la virilidad en las obras de Goldfarb, mientras las flor lo era de las mujeres. En esta obra el artista utiliza una metáfora de la lucha de poderes femeninos y masculinos a través de estos símbolos.
